Will Smith did play Neo from The Matrix. But there’s a nuance
- AYG -After weeks of intrigue, the actor and singer finally revealed the essence of the mysterious project that he announced in early January. It turned out that it was not a new film, but a music video for the track Beautiful Scars, recorded in collaboration with rap artist Big Sean.
At the beginning of the video, Smith admits that to this day he regrets not taking on the role of Neo. At this moment, Morpheus (played by Big Sean) appears in front of him and gives him a choice between a red and a blue pill. However, instead of the obvious decision, the actor takes both pills at once, after which he plunges into an alternate reality, where he still played the lead role in the cult film.
Then the artists perform the track against the backdrop of iconic scenes from the Wachowski relatives’ sci-fi action film. Smith masters martial arts, shoots an Uzi and effectively dodges bullets, repeating the movements of Keanu Reeves.
In addition to the video, Smith announced a new music album, Based on a True Story, which will be released in March. This will be his first album in 19 years – the previous collection, Lost and Found, was released in 2005.
