Valve Bans Counter-Strike: Classic Offensive Mod After 8 Years of Development
- AYG -The mod’s developers announced that they had stopped working on the title after receiving a ban from Valve on publishing it on Steam. Despite preliminary approval through the Steam Greenlight system in 2017 and an 8-year development period, the corporation refused to release it, citing a violation of intellectual property rights.
In an official statement, the authors expressed disappointment with Valve’s decision, pointing out double standards – other projects (Black Mesa and Portal Reloaded) also use the company’s intellectual property, but remain available. Previously, Valve offered to make certain changes to the mod, but ultimately banned the release completely.

This case calls into question the future of the modding community in the Valve ecosystem, demonstrating the company’s inconsistent policy regarding fan projects. The developers of Classic Offensive emphasize that they have created a precedent that could negatively affect other similar initiatives.
