Tesla Cancels Production of Additional Battery for Cybertruck
- AYG -Tesla has officially scrapped plans to release an external battery for its Cybertruck electric pickup truck, notifying customers who made a $2,000 down payment that they would receive a full refund. The changes have also been reflected in the car configurator on the official website, where the option to order an additional battery has disappeared.

Initially announced for early 2025 and then postponed to mid-year, the accessory was supposed to compensate for the discrepancy between the declared and actual power reserve figures. Instead of the promised 500 miles (805 km) for the top version, the Cybertruck demonstrates a maximum range of 350 miles (563 km) on a single charge.

The decision to cancel the production of an additional battery may be due to low sales of the electric pickup – in 15 months, Tesla has sold less than 50,000 units against initial expectations of 250,000-500,000 annual deliveries. The company does not disclose the official reasons for abandoning the accessory, leaving Cybertruck owners without the possibility of increasing the power reserve by official means.
