The space simulator Star Citizen, which has been in development for over a decade, continues to accumulate funding despite still being in the alpha stage. It was recently announced that the total amount of funds raised through crowdfunding has exceeded $800 million.

For comparison, at the beginning of 2023, the budget was about $550 million, which means that the annual inflow of funds from players exceeds $100 million. The project has long gone down in history as one of the most expensive in the gaming industry. At the same time, over 5 million accounts have been registered in the Star Citizen system to date, which emphasizes the public’s interest in the game – despite the lack of a full release.

In addition to the main multiplayer version, developers from Cloud Imperium Games are working on Squadron 42 – a single-player game in the Star Citizen universe with the participation of Hollywood stars. Initially, its beta testing was planned to begin in 2020, but to this day the project does not even have an approximate release date. In 2024, the developers decided to cancel the annual CitizenCon event in order to focus on completing Squadron 42. However, it seems that the long-awaited premiere will have to wait a long time.
