Rumor: Activision is preparing a revival of the popular Prototype series

Fans of the cult action franchise Prototype may soon get a long-awaited sequel. According to some reports, Activision is planning to bring the series back to life by starting development of a new part.

The information came from a Reddit user who claims to have been present in an Activision focus group. According to him, after the presentation of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the studio hinted at working on the next Prototype. The game will once again take place in New York, where a new catastrophe occurred, and the protagonist will again be Alex Mercer – a mutant with incredible abilities.

The first Prototype was released in 2009 and immediately gained popularity due to its unique gameplay, combining parkour, body transformation and brutal battles. Players controlled Alex Mercer, trying to uncover the secret of the virus that turned the city into a zone of chaos.

In 2012, a sequel was released, where Mercer became an antagonist, and the main character was a new character – James Heller. Despite the positive reviews, the series disappeared from the radar for a long time, and only now signs of its return have appeared.

There is no official confirmation from Activision yet, but if the rumors are true, fans can expect a revival of one of the most unusual action franchises of the 2000s. All that remains is to wait for official announcements – perhaps in the coming months the company will reveal details of the project.
