Record-Breaking Run: Speedrunner Completes DOOM: The Dark Ages in 70 Minutes

Just a few days after the release of the meaty action, speedrunner Daravae managed to set the first record in the any% category, completing the bloody shooter in 1 hour and 10 minutes. To achieve this impressive result, the player used a combination of non-standard techniques and in-game bugs that allowed him to significantly reduce the time it took to complete the game.

The key elements of the strategy were the use of the Executioner’s ability to quickly move around the game together with the Atlan mech to go beyond the game space, as well as a bug discovered with teleportation when interacting with the level map. Daravae notes that even taking into account the loss of time in some problematic areas, the current record can be further improved, since the potential for route optimization remains significant.

DOOM: The Dark Ages, released on May 15 by id Software under the Bethesda Softworks publishing house, is already available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms. The set record demonstrates the high interest of the speedrunner community in the new project of the cult series.
