Nintendo Switch May Remain the Second-Best-Selling Console in History

According to Nintendo’s latest financial report, the original Switch has sold 152.12 million units. The company predicts that this figure will increase to 156.62 million by the end of the current fiscal year, which will allow the console to overtake the Nintendo DS (154.02 million), but leave it in second place behind the PlayStation 2 (160 million).

The upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for June 5, creates uncertainty about further sales of the first version of the console. The report indicates that the corporation expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 units in the first fiscal year after its release. This factor could be decisive in the fight for the title of the best-selling gaming system in history, where the PlayStation 2 has held the lead for more than two decades.

The current figures demonstrate the impressive commercial success of the Switch, which in seven years on the market has managed to approach the record results of its legendary predecessors. However, the final result will depend on the sales dynamics of both versions of the console during the transition period.
