Nexon in talks with Blizzard to develop new StarCraft project
- AYG -The South Korean gaming industry may receive the rights to develop the cult StarCraft franchise. According to sources, Nexon, known for Dave the Diver, has won a tender among local developers and entered into negotiations with Blizzard Entertainment about creating a new project in the sci-fi universe. Previously, such studios as NCSoft, Netmarble and Krafton expressed their interest in the franchise, but it was Nexon’s offer that turned out to be the most promising.

As part of the proposed agreement, the Korean publisher will also receive exclusive rights to distribute the mobile MOBA Overwatch in South Korea and Japan. This project is being developed by an internal Blizzard team led by Walter Kong, and not by third-party contractors.
Details of the new StarCraft remain a secret for now. It is only known that Blizzard did not limit potential partners in their choice of genre, and Nexon’s concept was recognized as the most original. At the same time, as journalist Jason Schreier reports, a shooter based on the StarCraft universe is in development, for which Dan Hay, executive producer of the Far Cry series, is responsible.
