New God of War Will Be Released in Metroidvania Style According to Insiders

Reputable sources Tom Henderson and Jeff Grubb have reported that a spin-off of the God of War series, made in the 2.5D Metroidvania format, is being prepared. According to them, the game will take place in Ancient Greece with the return of Kratos as the main character, and the plot will reveal previously unknown facts from the life of the Spartan.

The project is expected to be smaller in scale compared to the latest parts of the franchise and may be announced at the upcoming State of Play presentation. Insiders suggest the game will be released before the end of 2025, which indicates its status as an intermediate project between major releases of the series.

If the information is confirmed, this will be the first time the God of War franchise has radically changed the game format since its reboot in 2018. So far, Sony and Santa Monica Studio have not officially commented on these rumors, leaving fans waiting for a possible announcement.
