Motorola Patents Foldable Smartphone With Satellite Communications

Information about a new Motorola patent has appeared online, which describes a foldable smartphone with a built-in antenna for satellite communications. The document was filed in August 2023, but was discovered by insiders only now.

Similar technology is already used in some smartphones, allowing users to make calls and send messages even in places where there is no cellular network. Motorola plans to implement a similar feature in its new foldable device.

According to patent images, the device will receive a flexible internal display and a vertical hinge, and on its back there will be a low-profile patch antenna that provides communication with satellites.

At the moment, Motorola has not released foldable models similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and details about the characteristics of the new smartphone are still missing.
