Microsoft has finally decided to abandon its strategy of releasing exclusives only available on Xbox consoles
- AYG -This was reported by insider Jez Corden from Windows Central.
The company plans to focus on multiplatform, which means that new projects will be released on different platforms, including PlayStation 5. As an example, Corden mentioned The Outer Worlds 2, which will be available for several systems at once.
However, exceptions are still possible, but they will be due rather to organizational reasons. Some development teams are not yet ready to work on versions for different platforms at the same time, so such projects may temporarily remain exclusive to Xbox. However, Microsoft no longer intends to adhere to the old approach to permanent console exclusivity, and decisions on specific releases will be made individually. As a result, most games will become multiplatform, with possible temporary exclusivity for some titles.
It is worth noting that this process has already begun. In early 2024, the game Hi-Fi Rush was released on PS5, and in the spring of 2025, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle will be available on the Sony console. The shift to multi-platform releases is slowly becoming the new norm for Microsoft, marking the end of the era of strict exclusivity on Xbox.
