Metro 2033 Redux Breaks Records: 50K Players Online After Free Giveaway

The free distribution of the classic shooter Metro 2033 Redux on Steam led to an unexpected surge in the game’s popularity. Ten years after its release, the project has collected 50,317 concurrent players – a figure comparable to modern AAA releases.

Activity on Steam increased sharply after the game became available to everyone without payment. Users left more than 3,500 positive reviews with only 56 negative ones, which indicates a high interest in the re-release.

Metro 2033 Redux is an updated version of the cult post-apocalyptic shooter from 2010. In 2014, developers from 4A Games transferred the title to a new engine, improving the graphics and gameplay to bring it in line with the level of the sequel Metro: Last Light.
