Marvel considered developing a single video game universe similar to the MCU, but ultimately abandoned the idea. Former developers Alex Irvine and Alex Seropian shared details of the project on The Fourth Curtain podcast.

Marvel has abandoned the idea of a shared gaming universe

The concept of a shared universe emerged before the success of the MCU, but Disney did not allocate funding due to difficulties in synchronizing the plots of video games, films, and comics. Irvine, who worked on Marvel Rivals, noted that the authors proposed combining game titles through a special platform with VR elements, where players could interact with different projects. Seropian, who previously held the position of deputy president of games at Disney, also wanted to propose this idea, but management did not support him.

As a result, Marvel focused on disparate game titles, for example, the successful Spider-Man franchise from Insomniac, which allowed studios to have more creative freedom and achieve financial success.
