Ubisoft continues to develop two projects at once, despite the difficulties within the company. The reviewer noted that the publisher maintains its intention to move away from the established open world formula that has defined the series for many years.

Insider Tom Henderson shared details about future games in the Far Cry series

The main numbered part will be Far Cry 7 with the subtitle Blackbird. The game’s plot will focus on a mission to save the main character’s family from the hands of a dangerous cult: the cultists are experimenting with hallucinogens that affect children and animals. The gameplay will be limited to 72 hours – this is 24 hours of real time, which will add dynamics and urgency to completing tasks.

In addition to the main game, Ubisoft is working on a multiplayer spin-off called Maverick. The action takes place in Alaska, and the gameplay focuses on survival and PvP battles in harsh snowy conditions. The game will offer new mechanics related to resource extraction and interaction with a hostile environment.

A distinctive feature of both games will be the rejection of the old Dunia engine, which was used to create the previous parts of Far Cry. Instead, the Snowdrop technology, familiar from The Division and other Ubisoft projects, is used. Thanks to this, the games will receive more modern mechanics of movement and shooting, as well as improved physics and visual effects. Among the new controls, tactical sprint and other abilities are mentioned, which give the projects a fresh feel. Henderson also emphasized that Blackbird inspires confidence in the developers from Ubisoft Montreal and their support teams, thanks to its original concept and thoughtful approach. But Maverick raises more doubts: Ubisoft has long sought to create a multiplayer project in the Far Cry universe, but the current version of the spin-off appeared rather as an attempt to catch the trends of the survival-PvP genre.
