Helldivers 2 creators want to heroically “kill” Hollywood stars in the shooter adaptation

The CEO of Arrowhead Studios, the developers of the shooter Helldivers 2, shared details about the upcoming film adaptation of the game.

When asked about the possible participation of famous actors in the film, the head of the game studio Shams Jorjani said that the creators of the film intend to attract a large number of movie stars, but with one condition: their characters must die brutally in the plot. Deaths in the game have become an integral part of its humor, where fighters, fighting giant bugs and robots, often sacrifice themselves for the greater cause of democracy, or, in the worst case, become victims of friendly fire.

According to Jorjani, fans of the game suggested various celebrities for the roles of “victims”. One of the popular candidates was Sean Bean, famous for his roles where his characters inevitably die, for example, in “Game of Thrones”. Some fans even suggested not killing his character in order to violate the expectations of viewers and add an unexpected twist. Other actors fans would like to see in the film include a wide range of Hollywood stars, from Brad Pitt and Dwayne Johnson to Ryan Reynolds and Henry Cavill.

The Helldivers 2 film adaptation was announced at CES 2025 in January. Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are producing, with Arrowhead Studios involved in the project, although they do not have a major say in the production process. However, the development team plans to do their best to preserve the spirit of the original game in the film.
