GTA 6 Development Started in 2018 – New Production Details Revealed
- AYG -Former Rockstar North developer David O’Reilly, who worked as an environment artist, has revealed previously unknown details about the production of GTA 6. According to his statements, active work on the project began in 2018 after the main production processes of the Red Dead Redemption sequel were completed, and not immediately after the release of GTA 5, as some fans thought.

O’Reilly was involved in the development of the title between 2018-23, confirming that the project was initially codenamed “Americas” with a planned release in 2021-22. These plans were revised, and the current release date is set for May 26, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

Although a PC version has not been officially announced, circumstantial evidence points to its development. Information from a former employee refutes the widespread opinion about 11-12 years of development, clarifying the real time frame for the creation of the long-awaited continuation of the cult series.
