Nowadays, video games are often used in various studies, and one of the main gaming blockbusters is no exception.

Theoretical physicist and educator Marat Khamadeev checked how many scientific studies GTA 5 appears in. To do this, he used the OpenAlex database, which contains a large volume of various scientific papers. Thus, the title Grand Theft Auto V appears in 743 articles, dissertations and other research papers in various languages. Also, 131 publications mention the title Grand Theft Auto 5. It is noteworthy that the number of such works has only increased recently, despite the fact that the crime action game is 11 years old.

GTA 5 was used most by authors studying sociology. For example, the action game was used to test the influence of aggressive games on human behavior. The title was also used by technical specialists. Thus, GTA helped researchers in setting up unmanned vehicles, in training neural networks, in solving problems related to computer vision.
