Google Accelerates Android 16 Release — Coming This Summer

Google unexpectedly changed the usual schedule of Android updates and announced an early release of Android 16. As top manager Samir Samat said at the MWC 2025 event, the latest iteration of the mobile OS will appear in June, which is significantly earlier than the traditional release window in August.

The acceleration of development was made possible by the new Trunk Stable system, which allows developers to work in a single code branch, rather than merging changes from several sources. This significantly reduced the time for testing and bug fixing.

Android 16 Beta 2.1 is currently available for Pixel devices, and a full presentation of the OS will take place at the Google I/O 2025 conference.
