Gearbox Management Denies Link Between Borderlands 4 Delay and GTA VI Release
- AYG -The change in the release date of Borderlands 4 from September 23 to September 12 has sparked speculation about a possible schedule adjustment due to the upcoming release of GTA VI. Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has categorically denied these rumors, emphasizing that the decision was independent of Rockstar Games’ plans.
Pitchford attributed the move to internal development factors, including the completion of major work and the elimination of technical issues. According to him, the change in the release date of Borderlands 4 is in no way related to the expected fall release of GTA VI in 2025.

Amid these events, the gaming industry is discussing the potential impact of GTA VI on the marketing strategies of other publishers. Some analysts compare the upcoming release to a “meteorite” forcing companies to reconsider their plans. Meanwhile, Take-Two Interactive, which owns both studios, is sticking to the original schedule for Borderlands 4.
GTA VI, confirmed for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms, is expected to set new industry records with an expected $1 billion in pre-orders and $3.2 billion in revenue in its first year of sales, according to experts.
