Euro Truck Simulator 2 Helps Develop Driver Fatigue Monitoring System

The simulator has become a tool for testing technological solutions aimed at improving the safety of truck drivers. A specialist from the Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic, uses the game to study driver fatigue, introducing smart T-shirts with sensors that monitor vital parameters into the experiment.

Creating a similar system in a real truck is associated with risks, and the simulator makes it possible to reproduce long trips without risking life. During six-month tests, the developers equipped the simulator with a real car seat and steering wheel, and volunteers spent up to seven hours at a time driving a truck, simulating the work shifts of truck drivers.

The research is ongoing, and in the future, smart T-shirts are planned to be implemented in real life in order to more accurately track driver fatigue and reduce the likelihood of accidents.
