EU to Allow Selling Smartphones Without Charging Ports
- AYG -Earlier, it was reported that Apple was considering releasing the iPhone 17 Air without a wired connector, limiting itself to wireless charging only, but abandoned this idea due to EU laws. However, as it turned out, there is a loophole in European legislation that allows such devices to be sold.
According to 9To5Mac, the document states that if a smartphone has a port for a wired charger, it must be Type-C. However, this requirement does not oblige manufacturers to install a connector – completely wireless devices do not violate the rules.

To confirm this information, journalists asked the press secretary of the European Commission Federica Miccioli, who confirmed that devices without connectors comply with EU requirements.
It is worth noting that the EU also intends to monitor the development of technological solutions for wireless chargers. In this context, it is important that Apple has already transferred MagSafe to the Wireless Power Consortium, after which the technology became the head of the Qi 2 standard.
