Cyberpunk 2077 film adaptation still in CD Projekt RED’s plans. Work on the project concept is underway

A few years ago, Trigger Studio and Netflix released a very successful anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, based on the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Then there were rumors about another animated project based on Night City. However, the situation with a full-fledged adaptation of the game for the big screen is less certain.

Back in October 2023, CD Projekt announced plans to create a film or series based on Cyberpunk 2077, but since then there has been no news about the project. As it became known from the company’s recent quarterly report, work on the adaptation is underway, but slowly. Studio head Michal Nowakowski noted that CDPR has not yet started looking for partners for filming. The reason is that the team is still developing the concept of the future film, but the project itself remains on the list of long-term plans.

At the moment, the company’s main focus is on the development of the fourth part of the The Witcher saga. In addition, the studio is preparing to create a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which has the working title Project Orion.
