According to insider TheGhostOfHope, the company has thought about the image of its flagship series and plans to reduce the number of crossovers with characters from films, TV series and other franchises. The developers came to the conclusion that an excessive number of extraneous heroes and thematic skins are starting to ruin the perception of the game as a realistic military action game.

Over the past decade, the Call of Duty series has regularly attracted famous heroes from a variety of universes – from John Rambo and John McClane to characters from The Squid Game, The Boys, Scream and even heroes of DOOM and Fallout. In addition, the shooter has featured images of celebrities, including Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg. Despite criticism from some fans, such crossovers brought in impressive revenue and were long perceived as a successful commercial strategy.

Now, Activision is rumored to be cutting back on these collaborations and being more conservative with the addition of new operators and microtransaction content, likely in an effort to maintain a more cohesive, serious image for the game while still appealing to its core audience.
