Alex Garland to Adapt Elden Ring for A24
- AYG -A24 has officially confirmed that director Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation, Civil War) will take on the adaptation of the cult role-playing game Elden Ring. Garland will not only act as director, but also write the script for the future film. The project will be produced by A24 in collaboration with Bandai Namco Entertainment, the publisher of the original game, and the creator of the A Song of Ice and Fire universe, George R.R. Martin, will join the team as a producer.
This is Garland’s fifth joint project with A24 – the studio has previously released four of his five directorial works, including the recent war drama Under Fire. In parallel, the director is working on scripts for a new trilogy, 28 Years Later, for Sony.

Elden Ring, created by Hidetaka Miyazaki at FromSoftware and released in February 2022, has become one of the most successful gaming projects in recent years, selling over 30 million copies. The game takes place in the mysterious Betweenlands, where the protagonist tries to restore the powerful Elden Ring. Ahead of the film’s release on May 30, 2025, fans will be able to get acquainted with the co-op spin-off Elden Ring Nightreign.
