A Minecraft Movie Could Be Turned into a Movie Series — Plans for Sequels Are Discussed

The film adaptation of the cult game showed outstanding financial results at the box office and attracted a wide audience, especially teenagers, for whom watching the film became more of a collective entertainment than just going to the cinema. Such success naturally led to discussions about expanding the project into a full-fledged franchise.

According to the Deadline portal, negotiations have already begun in Hollywood about creating a sequel. Director Jared Hess noted that the game universe provides many opportunities for further development of the plot that were not revealed in the first part, and that working on the film brought pleasure to the team.

This approach is becoming standard practice: successful game adaptations are increasingly getting sequels. Previously, such projects as Sonic the Hedgehog, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Mortal Kombat went through a similar path. While films with game roots continue to bring in hundreds of millions of dollars, the industry is willing to develop them into multi-episode projects.
