17-year-old girl spent a tidy sum on the game Monopoly GO!

Free-to-play games often do not require mandatory investments, giving users the choice to pay for additional features or cosmetic improvements. However, such mechanics often lead to some players losing control and spending huge amounts of money on virtual entertainment.

A deleted post on Reddit revealed that a 17-year-old girl spent $25,000 on the mobile game Monopoly GO!, downloaded from the App Store. Her adoptive father tried to return the money spent, but faced legal difficulties: the game’s user agreement clearly states that all purchases, including random ones, are final. Internet experts confirmed that contacting the developers from Scopely is pointless, since they do not provide refunds in such situations.

This story is not unique to Monopoly GO! Earlier, another player said that he spent more than a thousand dollars on the game, but, fortunately, realized the problem and deleted the app to avoid further expenses.

Meanwhile, the popularity of Monopoly GO! continues to grow. A year ago, it became known that this free-to-play hit brings developers about four million dollars in revenue daily, which indicates high monetization efficiency.
