Unknown criminals stole a large batch of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles worth $1.4 million during transportation from the company’s headquarters to a Texas branch of the GameStop chain. The criminals managed to quietly unload about 3,000 devices from a truck that had traveled 2,143 kilometers, while the driver of the vehicle did not even notice the loss and arrived at the destination with an empty trailer.

The incident occurred against the backdrop of record sales of Switch 2, which sold more than 3.5 million copies in the first days after its release. This is not the only case of a large-scale theft of gaming equipment – in 2020, batches of PlayStation 5 were stolen in a similar way, and in 2015, criminals stole an entire truck with copies of Splatoon and accessories for the Wii U. Nintendo has not yet commented on the situation, but the incident has again raised questions about the security of supply chains in the gaming industry.
